Mother's Milk Ice Cream Company

MMICCo. started as part social experiment, part business opportunity.

U.S. citizens consumed an average of 23 gallons of bovine milk in 2001. Quite an astonishing amount when you consider that Homo sapiens are the only organisms known to consume milk beyond infancy. Even more extraordinary is the fact that humans are the only organisms that consume the milk of other animals!

Female mothers in the Class Mammalia produce nutrient-rich milk for consumption by their own newborn babies. Humans have attained the unique (and bizarre) position in the food web from which they exploit the reproductive cycle of other animals (particularly Bovidae) for food. Adding to the cultural mystique of milk consumption is the widely held taboo against consumption of human breast milk either by unrelated individuals or persons beyond some generally unspecified age.

It is the mission of MMICCo. to challenge the traditional paradigm that there is nothing abnormal about conversion of mammalian milk into luxury food items. Mother's milk is a natural creation that we should celebrate, but is the milk of other species truly fair game for human consumption? If so, why isn't human milk? Our hope is to provide a delicious frozen product while framing this conversation in a way that leads to fruitful progress in consideration of the ecological niche of Homo sapiens.

Sincerely,

Bob Muscarella

Its Fair Day Sunday!!!

And I will be there with my Perf-ect Queer Crew! Picnic, stalls, music, drinkies, flopping about in a big old park celebrating all things queer... Must start working on outfit/s for that and Zoo. Speaking of that club, will be 'performing' on Sunday night, and NeedleNurse will be dj-ing, and StrykerMyer be doing a show too, so if you be in the hood you come on down now, yeah?

And Royal Perth Show starts tomorrow. Paper tole! Fruit and veg displays! Rides! Poultry! Food on sticks (I hope)! Fireworks! Woodchop! Precision driving! Its just like the Easter Show in Syn City I imagine. Though probably smaller. Have already warned the Monster that she will be in for the Nerd's Tour of The Show, and think she is all good with it. This may only last as long as the second display case of cake decorating, but we'll see...

One of the good things about being over here is that the do most things arse-up, Show in Spring not Autumn, ditto Pride festivities, so I get to do it all twice. Yay!

My Icecream Brings All The Boys To The Yard

Bless WPTZ for reporting this:

'People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman.

"PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the statement says.'

WunderKammer

Next time I am in Melbourne I will be spending a lot of time, and possibly a lot of money, at the wonderful WunderKammer. Medical equipment, prints, maps, insects, instruments... can't believe I lost it for so long! Wanted to go when I was there recently, but couldn't find it anywhere and thought it must have closed. Dang! Want to go back to Melbourne NOW!

Milk Soup

From The Times blog, Minor Matters:

Human milk wanted for chef’s recipes
19 September 2008

Love this… a chef in Switzerland wanted human milk for his speciality recipes.

Mr Locher served breast milk soup, breast milk lamb curry, and antelope steak with chantarelle sauce with breast milk and cognac to his friends. Apparently he used his wife’s milk.

After succesfully feeding his friends human milk, he wanted to introduce the recipes in his restaurants. And since there are many young feeding mothers in his town, he knew there would be an abundance of milk. He was offering the mothers 10 euros a litre for the milk.

But local authorities were not too sure about this ingredient in their food. They were also suprised by a loophole in the regulations which did not cover the issues of using breast milk. The Times of London reported that the lack of guidelines became an argument in itself. It was ruled that the chef could not guarantee the safety of the milk.

Mr Locher faces legal action if he proceeds with his plan of introducing the novel recipes in his Swiss restaurant. ‘I don’t understand all the controversy. The mother’s milk is the most natural thing in the world – how can anyone be against it? It is, after all, the first thing we taste and I see no reason why I should not include it in my menu,” he said.

For all you admirers of phallic enormity:

The Big Penis Book

"The Big Penis Book is a big book (an LP-sized hardcover, 384 pages) celebrating supersized stiffies and the photographers who immortalized them. It's the follow-up to Taschen's 2006 hit The Big Book of Breasts, also edited by Dian Hanson, and boasts more than 400 photos of some startlingly major tent poles, including rare pics of "the 13-and-only" John Holmes. Hanson, once dubbed "the most cerebral pornographer in America" by New York magazine, offers us not just the pictures, but also a fascinating history of penile aesthetics and erotic male nude photography."

Book-Gasm

From SMH today:

'Imagine walking into a book store and knowing that even the most obscure or out of print books will always be in stock. Angus & Robertson today became the first Australian book chain to install the Espresso Book Machine (EBM), capable of printing, trimming and binding a paperback book on demand within minutes.

It was dubbed an "ATM for books" by Time magazine, which last year named it one of the best inventions of the year.

Shoppers will initially be able to choose from several hundred out-of-print or difficult to get hold of books, but Angus & Robertson said the range would expand daily, reaching 10,000 within 18 months. They would cost the same as the current shelf price of paperbacks or less, the retailer said. This is significantly more than the 20,000 physical books a typical Angus & Robertson shop can hold, helping the chain maintain its competitiveness in the face of significant threats from online sellers such as Amazon. "Print-on-demand, alongside the internet, will be one of the most important developments aiding accessibility of books to the public," Angus & Robertson managing director Dave Fenlon said. Arch-rival Dymocks said it would launch a print-on-demand system within a year but was reluctant to do so today because of the narrow range of books available for such a system.'

GLBT PARENTS NEEDED FOR SURVEY *AUS/NEW ZEALAND)

Calling all lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans parents, their families and friends...
Australia's first major study into lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans parenting is now under way!

Titled “Work, Love and Play in Diverse Family Life”, it looks at how lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans parents are handling their parenting and household responsibilities, as well as relations with extended family and the broader community. While the research is being funded by La Trobe University in Melbourne, it seeks to involve families from all over Australia and New Zealand. Researchers are keen for any lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans (LGBT) people who are actively parenting a child or children under the age of 18 to complete the questionnaire.

The questionnaire can be found online at: www.thisurvey.com/bouverie .

This is a great opportunity to find out about the positive aspects of everyday family life in our LGBT communities, and whether our families are getting the support they need. I have attached the press release in case you want more information.

Madame Lash

i want, i want, i want. according to today's smh:
'Stunning, eyecatching and avant garde, the team at Shu Uemura want to change the way Australians think about, and wear, false eyelashes. L'Oreal has brought the internationally renowned skincare and cosmetic brand to Australia and its first 'lash bar' opened in Sydney in the David Jones Elizabeth Street store this week. The Melbourne lash bar will open on September 29, also in David Jones. If all goes to plan, eye-catching 'falsies' could soon be moving more into the mainstream with women popping into their nearest lash bar for some lace-inspired lashes or a pair embellished with diamantes, before heading out for a night on the town.'

Lash bar??? Now, when did they say it was opening in Perth?

Nutshell Sydney

Random Sydney highlights:

* Walking into Slox and seeing at least half a dozen ex-playthings in one room. Having one of them make an absolutely filthy proposition involving red hanky action and Turkish Delight. Remembering that in some parts of the world I still have 'it'.
* Hanging out with my folks. They are loud, mad, eccentric, over the top, energetic, creative and funny. I am very much a product of my upbringing (in lots of good ways as well as the odd dodgy conservative moment).
* Meeting with my associate supervisor who really understands my strengths and knows the right questions to ask. It was VERY inspiring!
* One of those magic Uni moments, walking across campus in the sunshine and sandstone, hardly anyone around, armfuls of books and papers and the bells chiming.
* Mocha at the Lindt cafe in Martin Place with Madame Phantasm. Lush.
* Yummy coffee and random fruit loaf at Varga Bar with the Canetoad and Necrotitties, discussing French feminism and naughty things.
* Being the more than willing conduit for Darkling and the Lioness' competitive streak. Armed with a tape measure and a set of needles each, going as fast as they could down my back. Yummy, and SILLY.
* Catching up with Schwee, and Biggles, and some of my crew I know from years ago when I was a budding polysexual princess.
* Helping Mayhem pack her belongings into a POD, perving on her bumcrack and getting a stuffed duck with an appliqued twat for my bother. And a lot of laughs!

Home, Sweet Home

Things I miss about Sydney (and to a lesser degree, Melbourne), and had almost forgotten:
* Dancing with furry faggots in frocks, trannies, freaks, queerlings, perverts, all dressed UP and vogueing to Mel and Kim or Wham in an underground bar.
* Queer performance. Just being able to head to a bar like Slox or a club like Tranni Panic, or any of the fundraisers/performance nights/sex parties etc that are on EVERY week in the Harbour city and see amazing quirky fucked-up rebellious DiY subversive transgressive political and most of all very very very funny shows.
* Spontaneous acts of perversion. Going clubbing, then heading back to someone's place where suddenly you are covered in wax/flogged/violated with pointy things or otherwise set upon, or somehow end up doing the same to others. Or dancefloor spankings-- when was the last time you saw one of those in Perth? Not at a specifically specified bdsm club or party, just randomly in any place freaks gather.
* Flirting. With and without intent. With everyone, with life, with your own reflection...
* Large false eyelashes on people who are not identifying as drag queens. Pasties on people who do not perform burlesque.
* Leather folk.
* My mates. Mad as they are, its the same kind of mad as me.

Golden Oldies

Here we are in our summer years
Living on icecream and chocolate kisses
Would the leaves fall from the trees
If I was your old man and you were my missus

- Billy Bragg
'Greetings To A New Brunette'

Loving you
Is a world thats strange
So much more than my heart can hold
Loving you
Makes the whole world change
Loving you, I could not grow old

- Morrissey and Siouxsie
'Interlude'

Does anyone else remember the scene in Tales of the City where Mrs Madrigal swaps the kids on the beach a joint for a go with their kite? She's with Edgar, and he makes some comment on the fact the she is remarkable for her age. And she tells him it is nonsense, and that this is EXACTLY how someone her age should act (or thereabouts).

One of the presents I gave Monster for her birthday was a kite.

Fringe Dwelling

Yes, I KNOW that I dwell on the fringes, but sometimes I don't quite realise how much. Really, I forget. Melbourne was a bit of an eye-opener on this count...

Another Girl, Another Planet

Mortgages. Shiny hotels with valet services and anonymity. Best-selling books. Coke. Home renovations. Shared custody of cat-children. Car repayments. Open-plan offices with views after-work wine and job security and holiday pay.

Sometimes I really do feel like I have slipped into another dimension. I mean, since when do I know people like that? Its all a tad confusing...

Her Shadow, On The Move

Even on holiday, 4000kms or so away from most that is new and stressful in my life, that ghost is there. Not happy just to haunt me on home turf, but always present, somehow, making certain quite pointedly that I know there are places I can never occupy, places that are hers, places she is unwilling to vacate. I don't begrudge her being nostalgic and wishing for things long gone-- we all do sometimes. Letting go is an ongoing and gradual process, and never complete. But...

Four days wasn't much of a reprieve to ask for. Of course, she is not in Sydney, but that is not the point. Neither is Monster.

Me and Her Shadow

I live in her house, shacked up with her former love and the shared custody of her cats. I eat from her plates, and cook food from her pantry and fridge in her pans. I renovate her back room, give her walls another coat of paint. I hang out with her friends, and hold parties in her yard. I sleep and sit and watch TV from her furniture. Actually, its probably her TV too. I am learning all the things she knows about favourite movies and comedians and where the string and clingwrap are kept. Sometimes I find an old anniversary card or photo stuck to the fridge or staring at me from a shelf.

I moved away from my past, my ghosts stain other sheets and get their mail in other letterboxes. This ghost isn't mine, but she still haunts me. Some days I feel like I just slipped neatly into the hole she left somehow. Often I jump at shadows and I am not sure if they are mine or hers.

And then I wonder why I am spooked.

Dairy Queen

'I knelt down by the huge brown animal and with my hot cheek pressed into its rounded flanks let my fingers tease out long lines of milk which hit the metal pail beneath with the satisfying ring of bullets. It was hot and dark inside the milking sheds and the strong sweet smell of the heavy beasts, their milky breath and the hay was making me drowsy. I leant my full weight against the firm body of the animal and closed my eyes. Its skin was soft and warm. Outside I could hear the sound of girls laughing and playing and I wanted to join them in the gardens and the sunlight that I knew lay beyond. The fields were like a paradise: all the buds were splitting, the grass was green and the still air spilled with floating seeds and luminous insects. I knew it all lay beyond the door and yet I stayed in the dark of the sheds. With my strong brown fingers, I pulled methodically at the animal's shuddering sack of milk and watched as the bucket slowly began to fill with the warm frothy liquid. Every now and then I'd dip my finger in and suck on the sweet milk like a child.

When the pail was full I stood up and wiped the perspiration from my face. My entire body was hot and I could feel tiny rivulets of sweat trickling down the insides of my thighs. The animals around me moved in anticipation and I could see milk oozing from their swollen teats dripping down onto the floor. I lifted the pail and began to walk unevenly across the bran, but as I moved my foot caught on a stone and the bucket jerked from my hands and landed with a clatter. The milk immediately spilled out, forming a large white lake on the dirty stone floor.

'You're very clumsy,' a voice said from inside the barn.

I looked around me and saw a shadow in the far corner.

'Don't you think you ought to clear it up? Get down on your hands and knees and lick.' I hesitated and the voice repeated itself. 'I said, get down and lick it up.'

Slowly I put the pail down and crouched on the floor. The stones were cool and smelt mildly of ammonia.

'Lick,' the voice again commanded and I stuck out my tongue and began to lick at the pool, all the time aware of the fact that a man stood in the shadows watching me. Then I heard him cross the barn and felt him prod me from behind with his boot.

'You're far too slow,' he said. 'It will never get cleared up at this rate. Take off your skirts and underclothes and clear it up.'

I stood up slowly and began to slip off my clothing until my lower half was naked. When that was done I felt his hands on my shoulders pushing me down so that I had to squat in the white pool. I began wiping at the milk with my skirts.

'Not with your clothing,' the man said, grabbing my skirts from my hands.

I crouched down lower and immediately could feel the cool milk brushing against my sex. I dragged myself over the floor.

'That's better. Much better,' he said. 'Now get down on all floors like that animal. I could hear the man crouch down beside me. 'Let me see you drinking from it,' he said, pushing me towards the beast in its stall.

I put my tongue to the warm sack of milk and began to suckle the animal, making my lips work as fingers, tightening and relaxing them to ease out the milk, and all of the while I could feel the man's hand touching me between my milky wet legs, stroking and caressing me. The milk dripped from my sex and spilled from my mouth.

'You've made a terrible mess of yourself,' he whispered gently as he moved closer and began to lick the milk from my skin.

I could feel his strong tongue like a giant cat's rasping and flicking up inside me. My body shuddered with short even spasms and I felt myself unfolding like a fat pink bud. I wanted him now, and it was as if he read my desire for at that moment he mounted me and pushed with the full weight of his body deep inside.
In the dark I could hear the animals growing restless, stamping the ground, waiting. The beast I was drinking from shifted uneasily. My mouth filled again with its warm sweet milk, and as I drank my body heaved with the thrust of the man and the animal's moaning and slowly filled to the brim with thick rich milkiness.' (Fermentation, Angelica Jacob: 11—14)
